Case: TCM AI Assists in Hong Kong's Fight Against the COVID-19 Pandemic
In February 2022, the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 pandemic emerged in Hong Kong
We were invited to develop and deploy a Traditional Chinese Medicine AI diagnosis and treatment system for COVID-19 as well as a prevention and control system for the Hong Kong Clinical Research Centre for Chinese Medicine and the leading Chinese medicine institution, Hong Kong Baptist University. This initiative has supported Hong Kong's medical clinics and makeshift hospitals in providing COVID-19 TCM diagnostic and treatment services.

Deployed and utilized in clinics, outpatient departments, hospitals, and the Kai Tak Temporary Hospital in Hong Kong, empowering doctors to provide effective COVID-19 TCM diagnostic and treatment services, resulting in significant outcomes.
Collaborated with the Chinese medicine expert team at Hong Kong Baptist University
Within a week, the development, launch, and operation of the Hong Kong Traditional Chinese Medicine AI diagnostic and treatment system were completed. It provided diagnostic and treatment prescriptions covering various conditions including mild, moderate, common, elderly, severe, and constitution-deficiency types, along with modified prescriptions for children, asymptomatic infections, prevention, recovery, and follow-up. The system included over 20 syndrome patterns, 30 primary formulas and modified formulas, and nearly a hundred granulated Chinese herbal medicines and patent medicines. It also connected to a patient self-management system on the doctor's end, enabling online consultations, self-monitoring and assessment, selecting suitable TCM treatments, and providing recovery and prevention plans for home-based care.
The deployment of the AI-based TCM diagnosis, treatment, and prevention system for COVID-19 has achieved significant results
On April 3rd, Professor Bian Zhaoxiang, Vice-President of Hong Kong Baptist University, presented the deployment and application achievements of the AI-based Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis, treatment, and prevention system for COVID-19 to the head of the central support team for combating the pandemic in Hong Kong, Academician Tong Xiaolin, and other experts.

The AI-based Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis, treatment, and prevention system for COVID-19 provides capabilities in TCM diagnosis and treatment, precise data analysis, and decision support. It has significant implications for clinical care, establishing comprehensive medical data, clinical research, and particularly addressing the global medical challenge of studying and treating post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 in the millions of individuals affected worldwide.
